It is important that anyone planning to hunt in Mississippi get a hunting license. Hunting without one can carry a pretty hefty price-tag (a fine up to $500). However, the state of Mississippi makes it easier than ever to get a hunting license. Several options that fit every type of sportsperson’s interest and budget can be found by visiting the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website.
While there are several options for short-term licenses, perhaps the best value offered by MDWF is the Mississippi Lifetime License. For a one-time investment of $1000 ($1500 for non-residents of the state) a person will be fully licensed for all hunting and fishing activities for the rest of his or her life. These licenses may be purchased for people as young as 13, but special licenses for children under that age threshold are also available.
It is important to note, however, that anyone wishing to hunt in the state of Mississippi must first pass a Hunter Education class approved by MDWF. A variety of options are available, but the most convenient is perhaps this one published and administered directly by MDWF. While there is an associated fee, MDWF does not charge until the course is successfully completed.
